The Timberjane Growbox will notify you via push notification when a soil moisture sensor battery needs to be replaced. Depending on the sensor, you will receive a message for either the blue or red sensor.

Step-by-Step Guide

To ensure your sensor functions properly, follow these simple steps:

  1. Get a New Battery

    • You need a CR2032 coin cell battery.

  2. Carefully Remove the Sensor from the Soil

    • Make sure to remove the sensor with the correct color (blue or red).

  3. Open the Battery Compartment

    • Use a small screwdriver or a similar tool to carefully open the battery compartment.

  4. Remove the Old Battery

    • Gently lift the old battery out using the screwdriver.

    • Take note of how the battery was positioned so you can insert the new one the same way.

  5. Insert the New Battery & Close the Compartment

    • Insert the new battery in the correct orientation.

    • When closing the battery compartment, ensure the orange seal remains in place to maintain proper protection.

  6. Reinsert the Sensor into the Soil

    • Place the sensor in a different spot than before.

    • The new position should be at least 2 cm from the pot edge and as close to the center between the plants as possible.

Fun Facts:

  • Banana peels as batteries? Scientists are working on eco-friendly alternatives to conventional batteries – including fruit peels! Research has shown that materials from banana and coconut shells can be used as sustainable electrodes in batteries.

  • The orange seal ensures that no water or soil enters the sensor housing – a small but crucial protection mechanism.
