Plant vs. Lamp: A Leafy Headbutt

Reading Time: 2 Minutes

The growth diversity of cannabis

Cannabis is naturally versatile in its growth. While cuttings usually remain predictable, plants from seeds - even of the same strain - can grow to very different heights.

The growth height of autoflowers is genetically determined and can only be influenced to a small extent.

Automatic control: Timberjane in action

The Timberjane grow box was developed to prevent such challenges. The automatic control of lighting duration, intensity and light color ensures that the plants do not grow too large in the vast majority of cases. Factors such as the correct distribution of nutrients and the height of the pots also play an important role in promoting healthy, controlled growth.

Despite this sophisticated technique, it can happen in rare cases that a plant grows right up into the lamp. We cant manipulate genes and we dont want to either.

No need to worry

The lamps in the Timberjane Box dim automatically when touched so that the plant does not burn. At the same time, this ensures that the lower plants continue to be optimally illuminated.

Nevertheless, it is ideal if no plant touches the lamp. Touching the lamp can present some challenges:

  • The efficiency of the lighting decreases as the plant blocks the flow of light.

  • Condensation on the lamp could encourage mold. However, this risk is minimized

  • The “top bud” of the plant, i.e. the main flower, is flattened on one side, which can affect the aesthetics.

Push message: Help, my plant is getting too big!

If the Timberjane grow box detects that a plant is growing too close to the lamp, you will receive a push message. This allows you to intervene in good time. The recommended solution is simple: cap the plant about 15 cm below the lamp. This cut does not harm the plant, but encourages it to grow two new top buds. At the same time, the light distribution for the other plants is improved, which can have a positive effect on the overall yield.

Fun Facts:

  • Plants from seed can increase up to 300 % in height during the flowering phase.

  • The FIM technique (“Fuck I Missed”) is a variant of topping. Only part of the tip is removed, which can lead to three new main shoots.
