Moist but Airy
The first life phase of your cannabis plant is crucial for its further development. Optimal germination sets the foundation for robust growth. During this phase, the seed develops its first root and shoot.
Potential Problems During Sprouting
Soil Moisture: If the soil is too wet, it can lead to unwanted mold growth. A typical fungal disease that affects the stem of your little favorites is the notorious damping-off disease. Conversely, too dry soil can cause the seedling to dry out.
The temperature also plays a crucial role: Ideally, both the soil and air temperature should be between 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F).
Humidity: An area of 80-90% relative humidity is most comfortable for your young plants.
Light intensity: This value is particularly critical at the beginning of a plant's life. If the plants get too much light, they can burn. However, too little light is also problematic as the small plants will "stretch" greedily towards the light source and then fall over.
With the Timberjane Growbox, you don't have to worry about these sources of error. Its precise control systems regulate humidity, temperature, and light to give the seed the best possible start. The special soil composition and the soil moisture sensors also ensure that the soil moisture always remains in the optimal range.
Phase Duration
Your Guide
The germination phase typically lasts 3 to 10 days. The transition to the next phase is signaled by the breaking through of the germ root and the appearance of the first small cotyledons. Environmental conditions must now be adjusted: Slightly reduced humidity and a gentle increase in light intensity promote the stability of the young plant. Your grow box also takes over the control here, allowing the young plants a smooth transition into the growth phase.
Fun Facts:
The first shoot of your favorite plant does not reach for the light. Instead, it detects up and down through gravity. A small stored starch grain signals the direction of the earth's core, and it grows exactly in the opposite direction.
Cannabis seeds do not need light to germinate - moisture, warmth, and oxygen are the key components.
Cannabis seeds do not require additional nutrients in the germination stage, as they already contain all the necessary reserves.
The positioning of the seed is crucial; the tip should point downward to guide the root on the correct growth path.
Cannabis is one of the few plant species that produces both male and female plants, a phenomenon known as dioecy.
The fastest ever documented germination for cannabis occurred in less than 24 hours under optimal conditions.
The oldest known cannabis seeds that remained viable are over 2,000 years old and were found in China.
The germination rate of high-quality seeds is around 90%.
